Note: Compared to the full install, the VM speed is limited by the virtualization and the fact we are running on one single node.

When you update to a newer version of the Virtual Machine Edition, you are creating a new virtual instance. Therefore, any data you have uploaded, sprayed, or created is not visible to the new virtual instance. The easiest way to reload data is to upload it and spray it again.
