lighter instance for the support node?

If I am running a 5 node cluster. using the config utility, I am able to effectively use only 4 nodes for thor (1 goes to support). Is it okay, if I keep the support node smaller in size when compared to the thor slaves? Or will there be any data intensive task going on in the support node too?
