The aim of the March Kennesaw State University College of Computing and Software Engineering Hackathon event, was to demonstrate to students how big data analytics may be used for social good to solve problems in society that make a real difference in people's lives. HPCC Systems provided students with the opportunity to learn more about The ADAM Program and take a look at missing children trends.
In 2020, we accepted a CodeDay student, Jefferson Mao, on to the HPCC Systems Intern Program. He will be rejoining the program in 2021 along with two other CodeDay participants, Alexander Parra and Eleanor Carl. This program was started to provide students with an opportunity to explore careers in computer science and to introduce them to coding, The COVID-19 pandemic has meant that the last few events have taken place completely virtually, including the latest CodeDay, which was was held at the end of February 2021.
HPCC Systems is celebrating 10 years as an open source platform with a new podcast series. This series will feature core members of the HPCC Systems community who contribute to the success of HPCC Systems through innovation, advocacy, and education. One of the biggest concerns that we have in education is the safety of our school campuses. To address this problem, the American Heritage School robotics team developed an autonomous, mobile robot that gathers and provides vital information to school security personnel, and, if necessary, first responders. This blog details the facial recognition training project completed by HPCC Systems summer intern, Jack Fields, a 12th grade high school student at American Heritage School in Delray, Florida.
HPCC Systems is going cloud native, and the cloud development team has been active with projects related to the new” HPCC Systems cloud native platform.” A number of these projects were implemented by summer interns.
